There are more than 340 food deserts across 80 counties in North Carolina. A food desert is an urban area in which it's difficult to buy affordable and fresh food. One of the causes of hunger is the lack of the access to healthy and affordable food. Some low income neighborhoods often face fewer grocery stores and they barely have any source for fresh vegetables. I am interested in this topic because it shows me that my family is very fortunate to be able to have a grocery store that's in walking distance from our house. A possible solution to help would be starting a community garden and planting fruits and vegetables there. Then the people who can't reach any grocery stores can just walk to their community garden and get the food they need. Having food deserts in our community is very sad but there are ways to help.
